Started in November 2012, the Kilah Davenport Foundation is a 501(c) (3), non-profit organization, with a mission to educate and advocate against child abuse. Through education and programming and financial assistance, the Foundation also wants to be a resource to those families who have been affected by child abuse.
Here at the Kilah Davenport Foundation, we hope to provide you and your family with information, support and most importantly, hope. Because we’ve been there…
Kilah Davenport should not be the poster child
for the prevention of child abuse.
She was a healthy, happy, energetic, thriving 3 year old when she was left alone with her stepfather as her mother was at work. Hours later, she was in the hospital, beaten so severely that she was not expected to live.
We know that often doctors don’t know the answers. We know that dealing with law enforcement can be time-consuming. We know that sometimes persistence is the only way to get answers and we know there are resources out there for families who have suffered.
We’ve worked hard for a law that gives child abusers tougher penalties. We’ve worked hard to find resources for children abused so badly that some caregivers give up.
Although Kilah survived for 22 months after her abuse, sadly, she passed away on March 13, 2014. But we know she’s still with us, encouraging us to help others. On behalf of Kilah, we’re here for you and your child.
